WHERE: Lorne, Victoria and Marion Bay, Tasmania
WHEN: December 29 – January 1
Is there any better way to bring in the new year than at the Falls Festival? Happening in two places at once, it takes a truckload of great bands into the Aussie wilderness for a festival set amongst the forest.
Both Lorne and Marion Bay have been picked for their beautiful surrounds, offering a truly unique alternative to the parks and dustbowls of other events. And if you get tired of seeing world class bands (heaven forbid), the beach ain’t too far away, so you can wash away the sweat and hangover of the night before.
The festival was born in Lorne in 1993 and was originally known as Rock Above The Falls. Ten years later it added the Marion Bay event across the Tasman to its schedule, bringing a well-needed influx of music into the Apple Isle. These days it sells out in a matter of days/hours/minutes – so if you wanna go don’t drag your feet.
Due to the popularity of the tickets and to make it harder for scalpers, the Falls Festival runs a ticket lottery. Keep an eye on the official website for all the details.

CLICK FOR LESSFalls is simultaneously held in Victoria and Tasmania, with bands and artists swapping between the two. The Victorian Festival takes place on a beautiful farm near the town of Lorne, while the Tassie event happens at Marion Bay overlooking the beach and Maria Island in the distance. It may be a bit of a journey but it’s definitely worth the trip.
